Enrollment for 2018-19 We want to determine as accurately as possible the number of students who will be attending Walnut Park next year. Knowing who will be attending enables us to plan classes and staffing needs. If you are moving out of town or will be registering your child in another school in the area, please let us know.
WALNUT PARK is a “SCENT AWARE” SCHOOL
Our school is designated as a ‘Scent Aware’ school. For the health benefit of all staff and students we ask that all visitors and staff refrain from wearing strong scented perfume, creams, etc. Signage is posted at our main doors. On behalf of our Health & Safety committee and those sensitive to scents, we thank you for your attention to this matter.
Messages for Students
At times we field many messages from parents to their children. We are trying to minimize disruption to classes as much as possible. We appreciate your help and support with this. If messages are unavoidable, please call before 2:45 so that we will have time to deliver them.
SCHOOL PARKING LOT – PICKING UP and DROPPING STUDENTS OFF
Please comply with the “no parking” signs along the sidewalk in the drop-off zone. In the interest of safety and to minimize congestion in our parking lot, PLEASE only stop briefly to pick up or let your children off. If you need to leave your vehicle, we request you make use of our parking lot. Thank-you for your help with this!
NOW THAT WINTER IS HERE…
2017-18 SCHOOL CALENDAR HAS BEEN AMENDED -- At its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 the Board of Education passed the following motion: The last day of school for students will now be Wednesday, June 27th, 2018. Families will be reminded in our school newsletters.
Salad Bar This is a reminder that salad bar will be continuing on Tuesdays. Tickets are $4 each or 10 for $36. Please remember to order tickets by Thursday of the week before in order to participate. This wonderful program relies on volunteers and we are looking for more parents to assist! Helpers in all roles are needed: shoppers, prep cooks, servers and clean up. Please contact the school if you are interested.

Breakfast and Books
Thanks to our partnership with Smithers Community Services Association, our next Breakfast and Books event will take place on Wednesday, February 28th at 8:15. A healthy variety of fruits, yogurt, nut-free cereal, and juice will be served. The students are then welcome to stay and read in the gym or to go outside for some activity time before school. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. It is also our anti-bullying day and students are encouraged to wear pink.
Safe Arrival To assist us with our Safe Arrival procedures, parents are requested to phone the school after 8:00 am if a child is going to be absent or late. In doing so, we can be sure all children are accounted for. In the event that your child is absent and we have not received a call, the secretary will attempt to telephone your home, your workplace, and your emergency contact(s) to confirm the whereabouts of the child.
Strong Start News Our weekly schedule will be Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 11:45 am. Exceptions to this schedule throughout the year will be posted on the Walnut Park Strong Start Facebook page.
